| The second edition of Art Taipei wound up on Tuesday May 9th, setting a record number of forty thousand visitors. In the inauguration evening on May 4th, there were about two thousand guests came for the preview. Between May 4th and the closing day, 50 national and international journalists had registered. The exhibitors report being very satisfied with the results achieved in every area, but in particular as far as works in the middle price range - between 20 and 50 thousand US. Dollars - are concerned. A large number of deals were initiated during the exhibition, thanks to the participation of numerous Taiwan and international collectors. Art Taipei Executive Committee is proud to report the great success of Art Taipei 2006 resulting $4.7 million US. Dollars in sales among the 62 galleries, which is double from last year. By curating special exhibitions and divided gallery sectors, Art Taipei 2006 provided the best platform for Taiwan and Asian collectors for trading contemporary and modern arts. These strategies include Asia Live, Ela-Asia and Artist of the Year. Asia Live 2006: New Figure New Art focused on the novel interpretation of figures. With the participation of Ms. Patricia Piccinini as the Artist of the Year, and Art Beatus (Hong Kong), Art Seasons (Singapore), Aura (Shanghai), Nature Morte (New Dehli), Marella (Beijing) and many other featured galleries, Asia Live 2006 had created a fresh stage among the Asian art fairs. As the Asian electronic artists have been emerging from international focus, Art Taipei Executive Committee has awarded of the collectors' demands of this new art form and thus Ela-Asia had been created in 2006. By collaborating with Frere Independence, the organizer of DiVA, Ela-Asia has great potential to develop the electronic arts in Asia. Artist of the Year, a special exhibition curated by Art Taipei Executive Committee, creates a unique stage for contemporary artists. Since 2004, Art Taipei Executive Committee has been inviting respectable Asian artists and introduces their remarkable artworks to Taiwan. In 2006, renowned Australian artist, Ms. Patricia Piccinini, had shown her brilliant sculptures, photography, drawings and video in Art Taipei. By the great show presented by Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery and the artist's lecture, Piccinini's works had received much attention from the collectors and curators. The first edition of Asia Art Economy Forum in Taipei, right before Art Taipei in May 2nd and 3rd, also had received positive feedback from participants, more than 150 people who are gallery directors, scholars, collectors, and press from all over the world. It was a great venue for sharing, and exchanging experience of the art market in Asia. |
